Picking up on the second half of my thoughts on breastfeeding in our society. Last time, I covered the real problems women and families have with breastfeeding when they want to do it. The real problems aren’t pain or low supply; the problems are within our society and it’s lack of want to help mothers and families work through those and other issues. It’s the bad information out there. But, it’s not all bad. Breastfeeding gets a lot of bad press, but there is so much good in it.

Breastfeeding…Somehow it’s a controversial topic. Somehow female/parenting guilt, mom wars, bad press, mixed messages from the scientific/medical community, our society’s confusion over the body and sexuality, people loving to tell horror stories of any kind, and that elephant in the room—fear—have all collided into one discussion and taken away from what breastfeeding is. I know this is a difficult subject for many. I know this is a tricky topic for a business owner to speak on, and I’m trusting that you will hear me out. I’m not here to convince anyone if or how to breastfeed. That is not up to me. That is up to you to get educated on the topic, to weigh it all out, and to listen to your gut. Don’t just listen to what your best friend, mother, cousin, or even your partner says. That goes for any parenting advice/support. Listen to your intuition and your value system.
